Ben Affleck Gives The Batman Updates Talks Legacy Of The Vigilante

Ben Affleck Gives The Batman Updates Talks Legacy Of The Vigilante

We will be getting a Batman solo film in the near future that will directed by, produced by, and star Ben Affleck, who will be joined by the likes of Jeremy Irons, JK Simmons, and Joe Manganiello. Affleck will also be writing the film with DC Films Geoff Johns. Recently talking to New York Times and Variety at various events last Tuesday he gave a few words on The Batman and also upholding the legacy that has been built by other filmmakers.

On the script Affleck told NY Times that he is a big believer in not rushing out a script and taking time to develop it out naturally saying, "I’m a real believer in not reverse-engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather when you get the right story, when the right idea, when the right thing, then you make the movie. That’s what we’re doing, and I’m hoping to get that done. I’m spending a lot of time working on that, but also working on other stuff."

But he does wish to make a grand and glorious attempt of making a film revolving around the Caped Crusader although admitting that many have already been made. "If I could, if I could find it right, there’s nothing I’d love more than to direct a standalone, iconic, great Batman movie. But it’s been done. Chris Nolan did three really great movies. I’m really mindful of that. I’m in not any hurry to jam the mediocre movie down the pipe. I really want to make sure that, if we do it, we get the great version and one that’s worthy of the tradition of guys like Tim Burton, Chris Nolan, and Christian Bale."

Affleck again offering an update about the solo films script this time with Variety, who Affleck indicated to that a spring film date will be for The Batman while being interviewed by them. “We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”

Again on the legacy of Batman films, that has been built by a select filmmakers, Affleck gave high praise of what has already been made before he gives his adaption. “I respect all of those [Batman] movies, Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”

The Batman is written by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns, directed by Ben Affleck, and stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, Batman,  Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, JK Simmons, who plays Commissioner Gordon, and Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.

Ben Afflecks The Batman Coming In 2018

Ben Afflecks The Batman Coming In 2018

In an exit interview with Deadline, Greg Silverman, now ex-President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros, talked about what is to come in regards to Warner Brothers, and one thing he confirmed is that Ben Afflecks The Batman will be released in 2018.

Here are his comments:
“Next year, Batman Lego looks like a monster, and King Kong looks like a global hit and we have Chris Nolan’s Dunkirk, and King Arthur, and Wonder Woman, which is such a joy for the studio and fans. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a big film, and there are others like CHiPS, which feels like a real franchise for the studio. And Toby Emmerich’s films are also really humming.

“Then in 2018, there is a second Fantastic Beasts film, and Ready Player One feels like an ambitious movie by the world’s best filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, that will set the world on fire. There is Aquaman with James Wan, and Scooby Doo will be a huge launch and then there is Lego Ninjago. And then there is Ben Affleck’s Batman."

So it looks like The Batman will take that July 2018 slot on the DC Films calendar!
